This sunless tanner review has been highly anticipated! The two I am reviewing today are the much loved cult favorite St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse versus the newer but highly talked about and budget friendly St. Moriz. Below are some basic stats comparing the two self tanners.
SUNLESS TANNER REVIEWS
Above are the basic facts from each of the brands. I’ll review and compare my personal experience with each tanning mousse touching base on these five points:
Scent
Application
Duration
Color
Price
1. St. Tropez- Brand Name
Scent– Lightly scented to mask the self tanner smell, not overpowering.
Application– Shake bottle, apply foam to tanning mitt. As long as you rub the foam on every exposed spot the tan will wash away evenly.
Duration– If you moisturize well with lotion daily, this tan will last 5-7 days.
Color: Nice golden brown color. For maximum results I would leave the tanning mousse on over night. After six hours I did have a nice bronze tone left over after washing.
Price– $44 for 6.7oz
2. St. Moriz- Budget Friendly
Scent– Light semi floral/fresh scent. Not as strong as the St. Tropez
Application– Shake bottle, apply foam to tanning mitt. As long as you rub the foam on every exposed spot the tan will wash away evenly.
Duration– If you moisturize well with lotion daily, this tan will last 5-7 days.
Color: Two options: Medium and Dark. My Ulta was out of dark so I went with medium. I will order the dark online. Nice golden brown color. For maximum results I would leave the tanning mousse on over night. After six hours I did have a nice bronze tone left over after washing. I did feel like the tan was a smidge more on the orange side compared to the St. Tropez but not extremely noticeable.
Price– $12.99 for 6.7oz / Sometimes BOGO 50% off or use Ulta coupon
Verdict
I would save yourself over $30 and purchase the St. Moriz sunless tanner mousse. I would personally choose the dark tanning mousse. Apply 30 minutes before bed and wash off in the morning.
My Sunless Tanner Tips:
- Do not shave or wax 24-48 hours before applying self tanner. If you shave or wax before, the tanner settles into the open pores creating little dark dots.
- Exfoliate in the shower the day before. Really scrub your legs, chest and arms to prevent your tan from fading.
- Rub a very thin layer of lotion on your feet, ankles, knees, elbows and hands before tanning. I tan my entire body and use the leftover on the mitt to cover these areas. If you apply a large amount of tanner to these areas they will look very dark where the skin bends.
- Use body lotion every day to prolong your tan and prevent blotchy areas.

What do you use for your face (in terms of self tanner)? How do you apply to your face?

Hey! I use the left over tanner on the mit and rub it on my face.
