When we moved into our house 8 years ago a home remodel was something we never considered. Back in 2008-2009 beige was all the rage and our home was all beige, even the ceilings! I remember the only thing I didn’t like about our home was the kitchen counter tops. We agreed we would change those ASAP. Here we are eight years later and we were still looking at the same counter tops. Below are our home remodel plans to update our kitchen and living room into a more functional, lighter and brighter space. There is so much to do that it can feel a little overwhelming at times.
Home Remodel – Kitchen
We have painted the kitchen walls ‘Snowbound’ by Sherwin Williams, ripped out a dropped down desk area. The desk was basically six junk drawers and wasted space. We are also in the middle of ripping out the back splash. As you can see everything is severely beige and dark. We are putting in white subway tile backsplash with light grey grout and painting the cabinets snowbound as well. As of now, we are keeping the tile floors. Our countertops will be quartz in the color Calacutta Novus.
Behind our sink area was a raised bar top that looked into our family room. This was not a functional area. No one really sat there to eat because they would be sitting in the living room. We ripped out the bar top and the new countertop will be one large open and continuous area. Below the counter in the living room we will shiplap the wall and paint it Repose Grey like the rest of the family room. We will have one large basin sink and a brushed nickle faucet. My home remodel plan is for this countertop space to feel like an island.
Home Remodel: Before- Bartop
Can someone tell me why there are three outlets right next to each other and right above the kitchen sink? In eight years I have never once used these outlets. Even though they are GFCI outlets, there just seems something so wrong with having an outlet over the sink!
Home Remodel After- Bartop Being Ripped Off
The two by fours are gone and the bartop will be counter height. The inset wall will have shiplap on it.
Home Remodel: Paint
We painted the living room, entry hall and upstairs Repose Grey from Sherwin Williams. We painted the ceilings and kitchen walls Snowbound. When construction is done we will also paint our kitchen cabinets Snowbound.
Walker of course had to brush up against every wall and was covered in paint after two days.
Look at that contrast of dark vs light!
Don’t even ask how many Nerf darts and balls the painters had to clear from that platform!
I am really hoping our cabinet for the kitchen will be delivered early next week and we can get the rest of this home remodel show on the road.

Before I go, I have to share this gorgeous light weight sweater and crossbody bag. This sweater is fall and winter perfection. The body is a light weight sweater material while the bell sleeves are sheer with small swiss dots. I did size up to a medium so I could frontal tuck it with jeans or pair it with a skirt. It would be gorgeous with work pants or for Christmas.
This crossbody is my newest obsession. I am actually not a huge purse lover and prefer to stick to a few select bags that I know work for me. This crossbody is the perfect size for my wallet and phone. I love the cognac color but it comes in a variety of colors as well.
Sweater– I sized up to a Medium / Crossbody Bag– Under $100 / Jeans– here & here / Booties– my regular size nine
Sunglasses / Necklace
Have a great weekend and I will update you as soon as something moves along with the house!

We completely gutted our kitchen 3 years ago. It was such a huge project but well worth it. Things seem to be coming along for you!
